It might also be the bad (chinese) ELM327 cable. Had this happened with a 147 where i couldn't do proxy alignment because of a timeout. Turned out it was a very bad cheap copy of ELM 327 cable. Make sure you buy a proper USB cable with proper chipset like ELM327 or FTDI .
